Bangladesh Sports Press Association (BSPA), the oldest organization of sports journalists and sports writers in the country. The organization has been awarding the best athletes and sports people since two years (1964) after its establishment in 1962. In continuation of that, the organization presented the award to the best athletes of 2023 through a grand ceremony last Sunday.
The country’s fastest man Imranur Rahman won the ‘Sports Person of the Year’ award. Sheikh Morsalin, the young forward of the national football team, received the popular choice award from the audience. Nazmul Hossain Shanto, captain of three formats of the national team, received the award of the best cricketer of the year. Along with Imranur, Shanto and Rakib were in the running for Sportsman of the Year. This fastest man of the country became the best after these two. He had a great last year. Imranur won gold in Asian Indoor Athletics 60m sprint with a time of 6.59 seconds. At the World Athletics, he qualified for the main event by being first in his heat in the 100m sprint preliminaries.
Played in the semi-finals of the Asian Athletics 100m sprint in Thailand. In addition, Imranur played in the main stage of the preliminaries of the World Athletics in Hungary, becoming the first in his heat. This athlete, who has made the Olympics a goal, asked for prayers from everyone and said, ‘Thank you everyone. There are Paris Olympics and South Asian Games ahead, I want to do well there.’
Morsalin won the popular choice award by the audience, beating Shanto, Pinky and Imranur. He was surprised by leaving some stars behind. The young forward said, ‘The personal goal, for now, is to take Bashundhara Kings forward. I am also playing in the national team. I want to advance the national team. Calm-Pinky-Imranur; I was a little surprised to beat them and win it. Thank you to those who voted for me.’
