Türkiye has called on the international community to recognize the Palestinian state. At the same time, the country also called on everyone to oppose the US veto on the UN resolution on Palestine’s membership issue.

The country at the crossroads of Europe and Asia even considers it unfair not to allow Palestine to become a member of the United Nations. Anadolu news agency reported this information in a report on Sunday (April 21).

According to the report, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan called on the international community on Sunday to oppose the US veto on the UN resolution on Palestine’s membership issue and to recognize the Palestinian state.

Fidan said in a joint press conference with Mauritania’s Foreign Minister Mohamed Salem Ould Marzoug in Istanbul that day, “It is unfair that Palestine is not allowed to become a member of the United Nations.” We call on the international community to oppose this injustice and recognize the State of Palestine.’

During the meeting with Marzoogh, Fidan said they discussed the “ongoing genocide in Gaza”. He added: “Just like Turkey, Mauritania has adopted a sensitive policy regarding the Palestinian issue, especially the situation in Gaza, and is providing all possible assistance.” Fidan also said Turkey and Mauritania are “firmly in solidarity” on the issue of Gaza. In his words, “there we will continue our cooperation for an emergency ceasefire and uninterrupted delivery of humanitarian aid.”

He also said, “The efforts of the two countries will continue unabated until East Jerusalem is established as the capital and territorial integrity of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders.”
