Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Khondkar Golam Faruq has expressed concerns that in political programs, measures should be taken to avoid inconveniencing the general public. He mentioned this while inspecting security arrangements after the observance of Holy Ashura and the Tazia procession at the Hoseni Dalan Imambara in Lalbagh, the capital city, on Wednesday, July 26.

Commissioner Khondkar Golam Faruq stated that they have received applications from nine political parties, including Awami League and BNP, to hold rallies and gatherings. They are considering granting permissions to several parties. Those who are granted permission have the democratic right to hold their political gatherings. However, ensuring the safety of the people remains the responsibility and duty of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police.

Regarding the intentions of political parties, he emphasized that large gatherings during working days lead to inconvenience for hundreds of thousands of people on the streets. The authorities must carefully consider such matters. He suggested that political parties should not hold rallies on working days but instead take decisions during non-working days. Those who attend the gatherings should do so without carrying sticks, rods, or bags to avoid any potential violent incidents or provocations.

He stated that he will advise all political parties not to cause any discomfort to the people during their gatherings. If, in the future, circumstances arise where the public is greatly inconvenienced, authorities may be compelled to impose prohibitory orders on such political programs.
