India lifted the ban on onion exports | After almost 6 months, India withdrew from the decision to ban onion exports. By lifting the ban, the country's government has set a minimum export price of 550 dollars per metric ton of onions.

The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), India’s central agency for foreign trade control, announced this information in a notification on Saturday (May 4). The notification states that the previous decision to ban onion exports has been canceled and the price of each metric ton of onion has been set at USD 550. This decision will remain in force until further orders.

Meanwhile, various media in India are saying that this decision has been taken by the party sitting in the central government, BJP, due to the ongoing Lok Sabha elections. Farmers in India’s western state of Maharashtra suffered huge losses due to the ban on onion exports in December last year, so the central government took this decision.
