“I like it when I can see the two kids separately,” she said. I think the Rabeya-Rocare operation is a milestone in the treatment of Bangladesh, where the condition of treatment in the remote areas of Bangladesh is poor.

Rabeya-Rokeya’s father Rafiqul Islam said that the girls were upset after their birth. But happy with the full recovery of a girl after the operation. He thanked all concerned.

Major General AKM Mustafa Kamal Pasha, director general of the Directorate General of Military Medical Services, said that Rabeya-Rokeya’s helpless father’s cries came to the attention of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and instructions were given for their treatment. He is treated according to the instructions. They are still being treated with the help of local and foreign doctors.

Speakers on the occasion said that conjoined twins are a challenging disorder for pediatrics. Only one in 2.5 million live twins is born as a pair of heads. About 40 percent of twins are stillborn, and another third die within 24 hours. An estimated 25 percent of children live with a pair of heads, which can be separated surgically, but the success rate is not very high.

Incidentally, rare conjoined twins were born in the house of Rafiqul Islam and Taslima Begum of Chatmohar Upazila in Pabna. Rabeya and Rokeya were brought to CMH Dhaka on July 22, 2019 under the direction of the Prime Minister. Then on February 29 and March 13, 2020, two two-and-a-half-hour operations were successfully completed. Through two operations, the existing wound on their head is filled with new cells.

Later in late February 2022, Rabeya developed lesions on the skin on the left side of her head, which later grew to reveal an artificial skull implanted under the skin. In order to solve this complication, expert doctors from Bangladesh and Hungary completed another successful surgery at CMH on March 7 of that year. More than a hundred specialist doctors including local and foreign doctors participated in that operation. Since then both Rokeya and Rabeya are healthy with regular treatment.
