“The newly elected mayors and councillors of Gazipur, Khulna, Barisal, Rajshahi, and Sylhet City Corporations took their oaths. On Monday (July 3), at 10:00 am, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina administered the oath to Jaieda Khatoon, the elected Mayor of Gazipur City Corporation, Abdul Khalek, the Talukdar of Khulna, and Abdul Khayer Abdullah (Kokon Serniabat) of Barisal. Local Government Minister Tajul Islam administered the oath to the councillors of these three city corporations and the women councillors of reserved wards. The oath-taking ceremony was conducted by Mohammad Ibrahim, Secretary of the Local Government Division.
Later, at 12:00 pm, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina administered the oath to AHM Khairuzzaman Liton, the elected Mayor of Rajshahi City Corporation, and M. Anwaruzzaman Chowdhury of Sylhet.
At this time, the councillors of the general wards and the women councillors of reserved wards of these two city corporations also took their oaths, administered by Local Government Minister Tajul Islam.
Various political leaders, including members of the government’s cabinet, were present at the oath-taking ceremony.
The elections for Gazipur on May 25, Khulna and Barisal on June 12, and Rajshahi and Sylhet on June 21 were held. According to the City Corporation Law, the elected representatives are required to take their oaths within 30 days of gazetting.”
