“If you manipulate the price of leather, export is allowed”

Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi has announced that if tannery owners or businessmen engage in any form of manipulation or malpractice regarding the price of leather, permission for the export of rawhide will be granted. He made this statement in response to a question from journalists during a meeting held at the Ministry of Commerce on Sunday (June 25) regarding the determination of prices for sacrificial animal hides.

During the meeting chaired by Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi at the Ministry of Commerce on Sunday (June 25), senior officials, including the Secretary of the ministry, Taposh Kanti Ghosh, and representatives from the tannery commission, were present.

While the price of leather is determined annually, such discrepancies are not observed in the market. In response to questions about what the Ministry of Commerce will do in this regard, the Commerce Minister stated that leather monitoring will continue. If tannery owners engage in any malpractice, permission for the export of rawhide will be granted.

The Commerce Minister further mentioned that if there is an unjustified increase in salt prices, appropriate measures will be taken in accordance with the law. Market monitoring will be intensified. District administrations have been instructed to take necessary measures in this regard.

Due to the increasing heat, the Commerce Minister urged for prompt salt application on the leather.
