Today marks the 99th birth anniversary of Tajuddin Ahmad, the first Prime Minister of Bangladesh and one of the national four leaders who sacrificed their lives for the country.

He was born on July 23, 1925, in the village of Dardaria, Kapasia, Gazipur. During the Liberation War, Tajuddin Ahmad played a significant role as the Prime Minister of the wartime government.

On August 15, 1975, after the brutal assassination of the founding father of Bangladesh, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, he was arrested. Subsequently, on November 3 of the same year, Tajuddin Ahmad, along with three other national leaders, Syed Nazrul Islam, Mohammad Mansur Ali, and Abu Hasanat Mohammad Kamruzzaman, was brutally murdered in Dhaka Central Jail.

Tajuddin Ahmad was actively involved in politics from his student life. In 1943, he became directly associated with the Muslim League. In the following year, in 1944, he was elected as a member of the Bengal Muslim League Council. In 1948, he co-founded the East Pakistan Chhatra League (now Bangladesh Chhatra League) and later joined the East Pakistan Jubo League. From 1953 to 1957, he served as the editor of Dhaka district Awami League’s publication on culture and social welfare.

In 1964, he became the organizational editor of the Awami League and was later elected as the general editor of the party in 1966. He continued to hold this position until 1972.

During the Liberation War, he went to India and initiated efforts to form a provisional government. On April 4, he had an official discussion with Indira Gandhi in Delhi. On April 10, he made an attempt to form a government in Agartala. His contributions to the success of the Liberation War were exceptional.

On the occasion of the great leader’s birthday, various administrative, Bangladesh Awami League, and associated social organizations have arranged programs in his hometown Kapasia. Floral tributes will be paid to Tajuddin Ahmad in the morning. Subsequently, a cake-cutting ceremony will be held at the party office, followed by a rally and a discussion meeting in the afternoon.

Sakhawat Hossen, the Chairman of Kapasia Sadar Union and the President of Upazila Jubo League, said that they have organized the cake-cutting ceremony, floral tributes, and a rally and discussion meeting at 3 PM to celebrate Tajuddin Ahmad’s birth anniversary.

Tajuddin Ahmad’s daughter, Member of Parliament Simin Hossen Rimi, said that there are no separate plans for her father’s birth anniversary. Like every year, some assistance will be provided to orphan children and widows as per their usual practice.
