EC is monitoring the election on CC cameras

The Election Commission is monitoring the election, including the by-election for the Dhaka-17 constituency, through CCTV cameras.

On Monday (July 17), from morning onwards, the commissioners, including the Chief Election Commissioner, are monitoring the election from the Election Building in Agargaon. Senior officials are also present.

Voting in the by-election for the Dhaka-17 constituency started at 8:00 am. The voting will continue uninterrupted until 4:00 pm.

There are eight candidates competing in the by-election. Among them, party candidates include Mohammad Ali Arafat from the Awami League, Sikdar Anisur Rahman from the Jatiya Party, Kazi Mohammad Rashidul Hasan from the Jaker Party, Sheikh Habibur Rahman from the Trinamool BNP, Mohammad Rezaul Islam Swapna from the Bangladesh Congress, and Mohammad Akbar Hossain from the Bangladesh Cultural Liberation Alliance.

Independent candidates include Mo. Ashraful Alam (Hero Alam) and Mo. Tarikul Islam. The main opposition party, BNP, is not participating in this election. Also, the Islamic Andolan Bangladesh, which participates in almost all elections, has not fielded any candidates.

In addition to the by-election for the Dhaka-17 constituency, there are elections for 78 local government institutions taking place today. Among them, 39 are general elections or elections for all positions. Seven municipal elections are being held using Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs). Apart from that, there are by-elections for councilor positions in Mukshudpur of Gopalganj, Jamalpur of Jamalpur, and Domar of Nilphamari.
