Agriculture Minister Dr Md Abdus Shahid ordered the regional agriculture office to make an action plan to cultivate the barren wasteland of the Moulvibazar district within 50 days.
He asked to find out ways to cultivate the barren fields.
He made the comments in his first yard meetings with the farmers at the Sreemangal upazila on Saturday morning.
In this yard meeting, around five hundred farmers of the Moulvibazar district discussed their demands and problems regarding farming.
Addressing the farmers, he said: “Grow more crops. You would find government and administration by your side. If production can be increased, we will not have to import food from outside. It will save our foreign exchange.”
The minister ordered the Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC) to make an action plan to solve problems regarding irrigation.
He said that more agricultural machinery would be given at subsidized prices to solve the labour crisis.
armers demanded the installation of deep tube wells, free irrigations, and supply of BADC seeds along with some subsidy. They also demanded the construction of a juice factory to get a fair piece of pineapple and lemon in the harvest season.
