Austria beat hosts Slovakia 2-0 in a friendly in Bratislava on Saturday night. Their 24-year-old midfielder Baumgartner scored in the sixth second. Andreas Weimann doubled the gap at the end.

The previous record for the fastest goal in international football was held by Germany’s Lukas Podolski. He took seven seconds to score against Ecuador in a friendly in 2013. That record was broken in 11 years.
Baumgartner expressed his feelings to the media after the match, saying, ‘Of course it’s great. I am very happy. The way I took the shot… it must have been exciting.’
Baumgartner made his debut in the jersey of the Austrian national team in 2020. So far he has played 35 matches. He has 12 goals next to his name. And this season, he scored 4 goals and 3 assists in 32 matches for Leipzig in all competitions.
