The university student Roman is delighted to have received a laptop. | Roman Mridha, a poor rickshaw puller's son from a marginalized community falling behind the mainstream of society, is now a fourth-year student in the English department at Barishal University. When he was in the seventh grade, his father lost his job due to a stroke, leaving the responsibility of educating Roman amidst uncertainty among his six siblings. Despite facing numerous challenges, Roman managed to continue his education through his own efforts. He tutored in the village, balanced his studies with helping his mother in cattle farming and agricultural work, and passed his SSC exams in 2016. After being admitted to college, his father passed away. Subsequently, Roman persevered and successfully completed his HSC exams in 2018 with flying colors, securing a place as a fourth-year student at Barishal University.

Despite facing numerous challenges, Roman managed to continue his education through his own efforts. He tutored in the village, balanced his studies with helping his mother in cattle farming and agricultural work, and passed his SSC exams in 2016. Subsequently, Roman persevered and successfully completed his HSC exams in 2018 with flying colors, securing a place as a fourth-year student at Barishal University.

Roman aspired to become a freelancer and an entrepreneur. He applied for a laptop from the District Administrator’s Office in Gopalganj. Yesterday, Wednesday, the District Administrator, Kazi Mahbubul Alam, handed him a laptop. Roman was overjoyed to receive it. He intends to use the laptop to earn income through freelancing and outsourcing, to support his higher education and bring prosperity to his family. He also expressed his commitment to contributing to building a smart and prosperous Bangladesh.

Roman Mridha hails from the village of Deeghakul in the Sadar Upazila of Gopalganj district. His mother, Ful Jahan Begum, 65, is a homemaker. His elder brothers, Juyel Mridha and Kabir Mridha, did not pursue education; they are self-employed and support themselves. They have been living separately from their parents for many years. His three sisters have basic literacy skills and are all married.

Roman stated, “I am a marginalized person in society, falling behind the mainstream, yet I am striving hard to pursue my education. To integrate into the development mainstream, I applied for a laptop from the District Administrator’s Office. By providing it, he has given me the opportunity to become an entrepreneur. With this laptop, I will earn through freelancing and outsourcing and complete my higher education. I will present my college’s PowerPoint presentations. Currently, with the tuition income and a monthly allowance from my moral parents’ family, my education is ongoing. I will leave tuition. With the money earned from freelancing and outsourcing, my higher education will be completed beautifully. Additionally, I will alleviate poverty in my family with the extra income. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has announced Smart Bangladesh. We will become capable workers in building her Smart Bangladesh. I express special gratitude to the District Administrator for this collaboration.”

District Administrator Kazi Mahbubul Alam commented, “Roman Mridha, a poor and talented student from a marginalized community, has been provided with a laptop by AB Bank PLC as part of our sponsorship. Making a smart Bangladesh cannot be achieved by excluding professionals from any class. Therefore, to integrate into the mainstream of society, we have provided laptops to Roman and 20 other poor and talented students in the district. He has given each one a laptop. This initiative of the district administration will continue uninterrupted to create future professionals for building Smart Bangladesh.”

Executive Magistrate Md. Arif Hossain of the District Administrator’s Office said, “Students aspiring to become freelancers and entrepreneurs apply to the District Administrator for laptops. District Administrator Kazi Mahabubul Alam selected 20 poor and talented students, including Roman, for sponsorship from AB Bank PLC. He has provided each one with a laptop. This program of the district administration will remain uninterrupted in the future to create workers for Smart Bangladesh.”
