The Minister of Agriculture and a member of the Awami League’s Presidium, Dr. Muhammad Abdur Razzaq, stated that under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Bangladesh has achieved global recognition for its success in agricultural production. Bangladesh has now emerged as one of the top 10 countries in the world in the production of various crops, including rice, potatoes, mangoes, and vegetables, according to a recent report by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations. However, he also acknowledged that there is still room for improvement in agricultural processing and export of agricultural products.

These remarks were made by the Minister during the inauguration ceremony of the Netherlands Agricultural Trade Mission in Bangladesh, organized by the Embassy of the Netherlands at the Amari Hotel in Gulshan, the capital, on Tuesday (June 20th).

The Minister announced that investment plans have been formulated for four sectors in agriculture, providing priority status to these areas. The identified sectors include agricultural processing, establishment of cold storage and handling facilities, climate-smart agriculture, and irrigation management. The Netherlands’ technological cooperation and investment are required in these areas.

The Minister highlighted the investment environment and the detailed government incentives for investment in Bangladesh to the Netherlands Agriculture Trade Mission, stating that these sectors offer great potential for investment in agriculture in Bangladesh and can be profitable. The country provides a conducive environment for investment. Therefore, he encouraged them to invest and move forward in these areas.

At the event, Lokman Hossain Mia, the Executive Chairman of the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA), Nasir A. Choudhury, President of the Foreign Investment Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Thies Juistra, Chargé d’affaires of the Embassy of the Netherlands, Wies van der Ven, Head of the Netherlands Agriculture Trade Mission, and Frederik Pos, Chief Agricultural Attaché of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Netherlands, made their key remarks.

It is noteworthy that this mission aims to enhance cooperation in the agriculture and dairy sectors between Bangladesh and the Netherlands. Over the course of three days, the mission will engage with nine Dutch companies or institutions, facilitating exchanges with Bangladeshi entrepreneurs, investors, experts, and individuals involved in agriculture. The mission will identify areas for investment and collaboration.
