Russian doctors set world record for removing cancer tumors

A team of surgeons from a cancer hospital in Russia’s second largest city, St. Petersburg, set a world record in cancer operations. Surgeons removed 170 metastases from one patient’s lungs. Metastasis is the mature stage of cancer cells. If there is a cancerous tumor in any part of the body, mature cancer cells spread from the tumor through the blood to the whole body, attacking the healthy cells.

On Wednesday, the doctors of the NN Petrov National Medical Research Center of Oncology, one of the cancer hospitals in Moscow, removed these metastases from the lungs of a 37-year-old patient through 6 surgeries. Several hours were spent in this surgery.

In a statement after the surgery, the hospital authorities said, “Never before in the history of cancer treatment in the world has such a large amount of metastasis been removed from the body of a patient.” NN Petrov National Medical Research Center of Oncology is one of the largest and most modern cancer treatment centers in Russia. – RT News
