Ever since his birth in 2020, Fu Bao has always been at the center of discussion. Born in South Korea, the panda is no less than a star in any part. Fans have eagerly followed every moment of his life at Panda World at Everland Resort, a theme park in Yongin City. His fans were eager to know his news.

However, the star Fu Bao will say goodbye to all his fans in South Korea and leave for his new address in China in April.

According to park officials, earlier this month visitors waited for 5-6 hours to catch a glimpse of the star bear for just five minutes. Later, park authorities rescheduled Fu Bao’s viewing hours to cope with visitor pressure.

On March 3, Fu Bao’s last day to the public, his dedicated keepers at Everland presented him with various farewell gifts, including a bamboo panda doll, a bouquet of flowers and a slice of heart-shaped bread.

Fu Bao was born in July 2020 to I Bao and Le Bao as part of the ‘Panda Diplomacy’ program. Fu Bao is South Korea’s first naturally born panda.

After Fu Bao’s birth, Everland’s social media channels regularly posted videos of him. He has more than 1.2 million subscribers on YouTube.

As of February, the channel has surpassed 500 million views. A two-hour video of Fu Bao’s journey from birth to childhood was uploaded to YouTube eight months ago, and has been viewed 1.6 million times. The channel’s recent videos are filled with heartwarming messages from viewers including the self-proclaimed ‘online auntie’ of the beloved panda.

One comment on YouTube read, ‘Fu Bao, you are such a gem who came to us miraculously during this difficult covid pandemic.’

Another wrote, ‘Your aunty is so happy to meet you and you make me so happy. You’re very intelligent, so I’m sure you’ll do well in your new environment!’

Another commented that they can’t believe time has gone by so quickly. “We have to let Fu Bao go,” he said. I am very sorry for his departure. I support our Fu and love him. Fu, every moment spent with you brought lots of laughter and joy. Thank you.’

Thanks to Fu Bao’s massive popularity, its maintainer has also become quite the star on social media.

Introduced as his grandfather, Kang Chul-Wun shares his farewell message for Fu Bao. According to him, the Korean public’s deep love for Fu Bao stemmed from social media videos shared during the Covid pandemic when the zoo was closed.

In a video posted on YouTube, Kang said, ‘Fu Bao has helped in many ways in a society going through a difficult time due to the coronavirus and has brought joy to everyone.’

In an interview given to the media earlier this month, he said that people used to check his social media every day, so he felt like he was raising Fu Pao together with everyone.

Fu Bao will be transferred to the China Conservation and Research Center for Giant Pandas in Sichuan Province in early April, Everland authorities said in an announcement.

The authorities also said that he will be kept in a separate place at Everland Panda World for a month in accordance with international rules to adapt to the new environment before being sent abroad.

According to the agreement between Samsung C&T, Everland’s parent company, and the China Wildlife Conservation Association, mature pandas must be returned to China before they reach the age of four.

And when Fu Bao leaves for China, there will only be four giant pandas left in Everland. They are Fu Bao’s mother Ai Bao, father Le Bao and their twins Rui Bao and Hui Bao, who were born last July.
