1,650 metric tonnes of onions imported from India reached Darshana International Railway Station in Chuadanga by rail. From here the onions will go to Dhaka, Gazipur and Chittagong through dealers.

On Monday (April 1) around 6 am, the onion consignment entered Bangladesh’s Darshana International Railway Station through Gede border in India. Its redemption process starts from 9 am.

Ismail Hossain, in-charge of Raipur railway station in the city, said, “At around 6 am, Indian Railway wagons loaded with onions arrived in Sirajganj city. But due to line, 31 wagons arrive first, remaining 11 arrive around 9 am. Now the redemption process is going on.”

TCB Joint Director Pratap Kumar said, “From here, first 100 metric tons of onions will go to Dhaka through dealers in Dhaka. After that the rest will be distributed among the dealers in Chittagong and Gazipur through us. In order to meet the needs of the people, it will be sold in Dhaka from today. But it is difficult to complete the complete redemption process today, maybe tomorrow.”

Incidentally, a total of 1,650 metric tons of onions in 42 wagons arrived in the country through Darshana International Railway Port on Sunday afternoon. The shipment of onion was exported by National Cooperative Exports Limited of India. This is the first shipment of onion that TCB has imported from India.
